Grandmothers Garden

Granny had gardens for all to view
Roses, turnips and carrots grew
No fences back then, one-yard lead to another
All neighbors knew one another
Back then a man was good on his word, and hand shake
A wonderful feeling that really made you feel great

On a Saturday morning my daddy would drive me over
With a fresh scent of sweet clover
He and grandpa worked on carpentry
Woodworking was in their ancestry
I’d visit grandma and eat a carrot or two
Hugs and kisses a love I felt true

We’d visit and sit on the glider grandpa made
Under a lilac tree with wonderful shade
Buster the dog would sit on my lap
Wouldn’t be long and he’d be asleep for a nap
Shale rocks created a path
Right to the lovely bird bath

Granny enjoyed showing me her flowers,
and create me a bouquet with her clippers
Granny told me stories when she was a young gal
How her true love always called her his pal
Then dad and gramps came out with a lunch
Fresh lettuce and tomato, salami to munch

Times to cherish and memories never fade
With love, and cookies and lemonade

May the God of hope fill you with all joy
and peace as you trust in Him, so that you
may overflow with hope by the power
of the Holy Spirit.
