August Pleasures
Sun filled mornings,
Gladiolus sprinkled with moist beads
Peridot shimmering leaves
Glistening in the breeze
A spectrum of colors reflecting on the pond
Swans adrift floating gracefully,
as I ponder an elegant ballet
A harmonize of a whippoorwill duet
Soft shadows waltz among the trees
Essence of balsam linger in the air

Days of summer now shortened
Yet each day in August a treasure
Reclining on a porch while bikers swiftly pass by
Couples in love hand in hand on their merry way
Mailman brings letters from friends of faraway
Children floating paper boats on a nearby stream
Enjoying iced tea or lemonade in a frosty glass
Soon, the evening shade, a pearly moon, a firefly
Summer serenity, and quietness drift and fade,
into falling leaves another day
