The Fifties
Do you remember the poodle skirts?
Skinny belts on draped slacks, and pink shirts?
Forty-fives on our Hi Fi players?
Cardigan sweaters were the men's layers

Now those were the days with hot rod (cars)
James Dean and Marlon Brando, not just for the stars
Outdoor movies at the drive-in's, polka dots
Hey man, Daddy-O no way would we say pops

Girls took sewing and cooking while boys took shop
Who could forget the fries with Cherry Cola Soda Pop
Red Skelton and Ozzie and Harriet TV shows
Silly antics of The Honeymooners and their clothes

The Life of Riley, Shari Lewis plus Lamb Chop
The Twilight Zone, Dragnet with Joe Friday as a cop
Times when we talked with our neighbors daily
The game of Mr. Potato Head, and the radio playing Old Bill Bailey

Blue jeans, peddle pushers, Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee
We loved going with our girlfriend on a shopping spree
White bucks were popular, and don't forget those penny loafers
Fun in the sun, and dudes that were surfers

American Bandstand and The Mickey Mouse Club
Songs of Splish Splashing in the tub
Rock and roll with Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis on the juke box
Full skirts with crinolines and of course those bobby sox
So many teen idols Tuesday Weld, Connie Francis and Tab Hunter
Movies of romance and sci-fi, and our high school star punter
Remember those slang books where we wrote about one another?
High school proms, pom poms and chaperone's someone's mother
