My summers as a child was wonderful
Out on my cousin’s farm
Spending an entire summer
Plenty of country charm
She longed to have a sister, but we were together all
summer long
She was the only girl and very close to her Mother
Ina was always well protected by all of her family
My cousin had 14 brothers
We had daily chores, but I never thought it was work
We picked veggies for every dinnertime
Feeding the chickens and cleaning the henhouse
Everything was shared nothing was just mine
Sharing and Christianity was all a part of farming
Church service was first on Sundays
Farmers work six days a week
Back to work again on Monday
Jubilant celebrations for the wedding
When ever one of the sons married
We helped decorate the Church hall
Farmland was the gift a tradition that was carried
My Aunt’s pies always won a prize over at the Fair
Berry pies none others could compare
Our little hands were involved
It was a lot of fun to bake and prepare
I felt sorry for the city kids
As I was from the city too
They knew not what we did
We went swimming in the Finger
Lake and never felt blue
